I am thinking about buying a subaru impreza in the next few weeks but will only be wanting to keep it for 4 or 5 months. I have heard from several mates that they are difficult to sell. If i was buying an impreza with the intention to sell on after a while, what would i be looking out for. Is there anything special or rare in an impreza that people would be wanting to have? or is it just the simple things such as full service history that they would be looking out for

A: I don’t think it really matters what you use as long as you put the right weight of oil in the gear box,If it’s a standard transmission which i’m sure it is ,then you should use a 80-90 weight gear oil.

A: If maintained properly upto 300,000 + miles.

Change the transmission fluid every 36 months

Q: Should the rear wheels on my 06 Subaru Impreza 2.5i spin freely while in park with the car off?
I have an 06 Subaru Impreza 2.5i with an automatic transmission and when I have a rear wheel on a jack it spins freely but the front wheels don’t. The car is in park and off and I can’t figure out why the rear wheels aren’t locked like the front wheels. Both rear wheels spin freely. Should putting the car into park lock all 4 wheels without using the emergency brake?

A: There is a built in bias to front wheel drive. That is where the most weight and the most traction is. So there is more slip in the rear wheels and differential when nothing is really going on. However, should your same car be having trouble making a grade in slippery conditions the control modules would throw more bias than usual to the rear to get the job done. Putting the car in park should not lock the front and rear completely.

A: Your best bet is to go to a dealer and ask. If they have lease offerings going on they will tell you the exact amount you have to pay. Leases are tricky because the terms are usually set by the lender. You can’t just go in and say I have this much and only want to pay this much like with a loan.

A: The rubber thing is covering the clips. Pull the rubber off and you’ll find the clips under it.

A: I would check on NASIOC.com. It’s a huge Impreza forum with ton’s of members everywhere. Look in your local classified section and you will probably find a working one for under $50.

Q: What kinds of enginge swaps could you do in a Subaru Impreza?
I have a 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX 2 liter. I know the other Imprezas have 2.5 liter engines, but aside from those what other kinds of engines do people usually drop into those things?

A: Usually, the only engine ever swapped into a WRX is the STI or 2006+ WRX 2.5l. The only reason why you really should swap for a 2.5 is if you want to run a large turbo which would generate a lot of lag with a 2.0l, it also has better overall low and mid range torque. However on a stock 2.5, boost peaks at only 11.6 psi which really doesn’t matter because if your swapping engines, odds are your putting in a larger turbo. But yea, I dont really know of any other engines that are commonly dropped into the WRX, and personally, thats the only other engine i would think about putting in mine.

I am looking for the weight capacity of the cargo area for a ‘97 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. I need to get about 33 Dek-Block Piers which weigh 45 pounds each and I don’t want to pay for delivery (unless it’ll take me more than 5 trips). I have looked and looked on the internet (I don’t have a booklet for the car) but only found the liters capacity. So, if you know the pound/KG capacity, that’d be great!

A: On the driver’s door frame you’ll find the vehicle’s capacity. GVWR is the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, the weight loaded, including any passengers and the driver. The car weights about 3050 lbs empty (but “empty” includes fluids like a full tank of gasoline). The difference in the two numbers is the vehicle’s total cargo capacity.

HOWEVER, if you’re loading all that weight in the rear, you should also be aware of the “tongue capacity” for towing — 200 lbs. I’d stay below 2 or 2.5 times that over the rear axle, say no more than 400 to 500 lbs. in the rear cargo bay.

You’ve got to move about 1,500 pounds at 400 to 500 lbs per trip, or 3 to 4 trips. Assuming they’ll fit without damaging anything, you can make your stated goal of “no more than 5 trips.”

Don’t forget not to exceed the GVWR: add the weight of all passengers, driver, and cargo to be sure you stay below this number.

A: I noticed you picked only all wheel drive cars so, I would suggest the audi a4. mabe an a6 but that ups the $$$ I also like the altima ser only made in 05 and 06 i believe.

Hello, my dad wants to know what type of transmission oil he should be putting in his 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX (manual, 5 speed?)

I have been looking on the internet for hours and there is no specific kind it says, please tell me the name of one I should put inside!

A: I use one quart Penzoil Syncromesh, one quart Redline Lightweight Shockproof, and 1.7 quart regualr 75/90 gear oil. It’s a formula that has been used by many on NASIOC and I must say my cars shift better and smoother than any other oil I have used. But the guy above is correct. Subaru does way more research than anyone to determine what fluids to use so you really can’t go wrong with what they recommend.

Q: How much weight can a new 2010 subaru impreza hold?
My getting a 2010 subaru impreza soon and i carry alot of weight with me. All my sports gear and I’m 250 myself. I know on the side of the front door they tell you how much they hold, can someone tell me.

A: No max weight is given in the specs. Between you, other passengers and equipment, I wouldn’t go over 1000 lbs, which is about 1/3 of the base curb weight.
