Q: Kia Optima ?
Does the 2008 Kia Optima look any different than the 2009 Kia Optima?

A: They basically look the same but there are a few changes. The 2009 is a few inches longer and has a slightly wider wheel base. The grill has changed a bit as well. They pretty much smotthed it out a little to make it look more like a sedan instead of a smaller foreign car. Either one wouldn’t be bad to own.

Q: Where is a good place to get auto insurance for my New Kia Optima?

A: You can always visit a trusted insurance provider site like www.21st.com for any questions about auto insurance coverage when purchasing a new vehicle.

Q: How difficult is it to install subs in a kia optima?
I was thinking about buying 12″ subs for my kia optima but I wanted to kind of get an idea of what I would be getting myself into before hand.

What are the basic steps involved in installing subs into a car?
How much would this probably cost me total if I bought good 12″ subs and a box.
Have any tips for me before I start following through with this?

A: 12″ subs are only $5 at subway

1) Go to Subway

2) Oreder subs

3) Pay for subs

4) Open car door

5) Place subs on passenger seat.

Q: How do i hook up the subwoofer wiring in a Kia Optima LX?
Ok i’ver installed subs in many different cars. But i just bought a Kia Optima and i have no idea where to start? How the hell am i going to get to the plug-ins in the back of the stock stereo, if it is even possible to install subs to the stock stereo?

A: You plug in RCA’s with the same connection you use in ANY car. If you go to WAL-MART, they have a guide on hand that tells you what to use for the application you need. The connection usually costs about $10.

Q: How to change a serpentine belt on a 2004 kia Optima 4cyl?
I wanted to know how would you change a serpentine belt on a 2004 Kia Optima 4cyl and what are the tools need?

A: 1. Check to see if there is a belt routing diagram sticker under the hood, if not, draw one yourself. The routing can be a major pain in the behind if you forget how the belt goes and nothing to reference it by.

2. A socket with a breaker bar, or sometimes just the breaker bar itself (on a belt tensioner with a square drive to release tension), can be used a lot of times. Sometimes there is no room to get these tools in there and you will have to use a serpentine belt tool to release the tension. It’s a free loan-a-tool at Autozone. Probably easier just to get one in the first place, while you are getting the belt. It has a nice long handle for good leverage.

3. Release the tension on the belt and hold the tool with one hand, while taking the belt off with the other hand. Release the tool you are using to hold the belt tensioner(slowly, it’s a strong spring).

4. Put the new belt on using the belt routing diagram. Put it on over every pulley except one. Pull the tensioner loose again and slip the belt over the last pulley and let the tool go. You are pretty much done. Just check to make sure the belt is seated in all the pulleys correctly before starting. I usually “bump” the starter a couple of times before starting it, just to help seat the belt.

Q: How to change fog lamp on 2004 kia optima?
Does anyone know how to change the fog lamp on a 2004 Kia Optima? I it’s hard to reach.

A: sounds like you need to know how to reach them. Alldata.com

Q: I put on new tires on my Kia Optima do I need to get the Timing Belt adjusted?
I put on 2 new tires on my Kia Optima and now I am getting worse gas mileage!! The tires that were replaced were exactly the same size and make. Do I need to have the timing belt looked at and maybe adjusted with new tires?

A: good you got 2 new tires. now push your kia to the junkyard

Q: what is the time frame of a 2002 kia optima subframe repair?
Im curious on how long it takes to repair the sub-frame on a 2002 kia optima?

A: depends on the damage and how busy the shop is. Talk to your body repair shop for a time then add a day.

Q: what would it cost to have front end alignment and cv joint replaced in 2006 kia optima?
I have a 2006 kia optima and the front end needs aligning and it sounds like the left cv joint is “popping”. What causes the cv joints to go bad and how much does it cost to fix them?

A: CV joints may cost about $2-300 dollars to replace including labor and parts. Front alignment will cost about $50 more or so.

Q: What is the timing on the belt for 2003 kia optima?
I have my timing belt off, I need to know how to put it back on and the proper timing. @003 Kia Optima

A: This is a short version, wish I knew why it was off repairs, timing belt failure, maintence ,etc but anyway line cam or cams up at tdc. Line crank up tdc. Install belt and tensioner and rotate engine over by hand twice to make sure timing marks are still where they should and re-install everything add coolant and change oil would be a good idea and if the water pump is ran off timing belt that would be a good time to replace that also. Hope that helps like I said it is a very short version with what information you gave. Also I do agree whole-heartedly with Ebay s

Q: how do i install the pressure hose on a 2002 kia optima?
i need to replace the pressure hose on 2002 kia optima due to P/S fluid leaking. can i do it my self? or should I take it to a mechanic?

A: Are you mechanically inclined? If so… then yes. Just make sure you use a “Line Wrench” as those lines strip very easily… and make sure you keep an eye on the O-Rings in the ends… make sure you put new ones in, and that the old ones come out.

And just FYI – the pressure line WILL NOT be held one with any clamps… that is the return line.

- Good Luck!

Q: how to replace 2004 Kia Optima rear wheel hub assembly?
Have taken off the 4 rear bolts and can’t budge the hub assembly. Is this the only thing holding it in place? There is a brake shoe parking brake assembly but doesn’t seem to be involved. Need to replace whole hub assemly on rear wheel of 2004 Kia Optima, 6 cyl., non-abs Is there a video anyplace?
Thanks for Auto Dude for a response although no help. But that’s my fault; I didn’t explain that the car is front wheel drive only. After asking around, I found that due to years of use, rust and crud usually builds up and one has to tap with a mallet from the back. Tap on the rounded cone shape and/or take a heavy screwdriver and tap around the edge of cone shape, there is a small lip one can place the screwdriver. This should loosen the assembly. I had to jack the car up a little higher to obtain better ‘hammering’ leverage. It might take a bit, but keep at it…it will fall off, along with the parking brake shoe assembly and dust shield.
Auto dude was right about the rust and banging it with a hammer!!

A: If the Kia is All-Wheel Drive, there will also be an axle nut that holds it on.
If you take the axle nut off, you will need to replace it with the proper torque specs.
http://mibearings.com can help you with new hub assemblies and torque specs.
If there isn’t a axle in the rear, it is probably being held on by rust.
Try giving it a little bang with a hammer.
Good Luck!

Q: How to change a 07 Kia Optima EX brakes.?
I am a mechanic and my mother has a 07 Kia Optima EX. It won’t pass inspection unless the brakes are changed. I was wondering if you need a special tool to do this I needed one for my sisters 06 Mustang will I need the same?

A: your a mechanic then you should know that you need no special tools to most any car made and only a few with screw in type pistons and them you do need a special tool an dsince every car made brake work sam eway and only pads or how it bolts together different if you can do one brake job you can do any cars after that same way my wife does her own brake jobs in drive way lug wrench a jack an da big screwdriver one or two tools to remove brake pin or bolts can do any car or truck i learn how to do brake when i was 12 that was almost 30 yrs ago and they have not change much in how you do it how they work still pretty much same as well wilnot know what tools you need til you get wheel off but pretty much a big screwdriver and a pair of plairs i can do any brake job

Q: Where is the Transmission Control Unit located on a 2002 Kia Optima?
Have a 2002 Kia Optima and need to replace the Transmission Control Unit.. but I cant find it…

A: it is in Korea

Q: 2001 kia optima, where can I find the wiring diagram?
Hello everyone,

Last semester I bought online a Kia Optima 2001 but after driving it for a few months it broke down and my dad thinks that he could fix it if only he had the wiring diagram for this car, does anyone know of anywebsite or blog that has these wiring diagrams? Thank you.

Cordially, Priscilla F.

A: I own a shop, and work on many of these. You have two options here; One: you can go to the library and pull a copy of Chilton’s Repair Manual that covers this vehicle for free, or Two: You can go to the parts store, and order (purchase) a manual for it by the name of Haynes Repair Manual. In the back pages you will find a total wiring diagram for every circuit in the vehicle.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Q: where would the vin number be located on a 2006 Kia Optima?
I need to find out exactly where the vin numbers are located on the Kia Optima 2006
is there anywhere else besides the corner of the dash that a vin number would be located

A: Lots. Here’s the most common locations…

Door jambs

Engine block

Transmission case

Frame

Dash board

And some not so common places…

Under spare tire

Inside rear wheel wells

Fusebox cover under the hood

And not exactly on the vehicle, but..

Owner’s manual

Registration card

Insurance paperwork

Q: What is the difference between Mercury grand marquis and ford crown victoria?
I have a 2002 mercury grand marquis and I know that there is some exterior changes between these two, but any other changes in the facilities or something like that??? Please answer, Thank you.

A: we have both in our house … maybe grand marquis is like the fancy crown victoria
more like acure and honda … or nissan and infiniti …. or toyota and lexus but the same shape
kindda like chevy tahoe and gmc yukon too

its just a lil more fancy if even … to me they look the same and i like the ford better

Q: Would a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis beat a 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL in a race?
The mercury grand marquis has 215 horsepower at 4,500 rpm and 290 pounds feet of torque at 3,250 rpm. The Mitsubishi 3,000 GT has 218 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 205 pounds feet of torque at 4,500 rpm. The Grand Marquis weighs 3,958 pounds and the 3000 GT weighs 3,329 pounds and is a five speed manual. The mkecury grand marquis is a 4 speed automatic.

A: Look at the horsepower to weight ratio. The 3000GT wins that one hands down (a little more HP, a lot less weight). No contest — the 3000GT would win that race. The only way a Grand Marquis could beat a 3000GT is if the Grand Marquis had a police interceptor engine under the hood.

Q: Does anyone about 1993 mercury grand marquis overdrive problems?
This is in a 93 Mercury Grand Marquis with cruise control. When I am driving in 1st and 2nd gear. The car runs fine, but when the car goes into over drive the car seems to slip out of gear and the motor races like as if it was in nuetrual. If you turn off the overdirve then the car goes fine. It just runs at a higher RPM. What can cause just the overdrive to do this and how hard is it to fix?

A: Sounds like the O/D band is gone or the intermediate one-way has failed. Both are common failures with that trans. It will require a trans overhaul or replacemment depending on what you can afford. Pressing the O/D cancel button locks out O/D and the trans will shift 1-2-3 only. You can drive it this way for a while or to get to the trans shop.

Q: How much would a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis cost?
I have a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis and I am selling it. It has 269894.5 km on it but works perfectly. How much should I be selling it for?

A: It’s worth about $1000-$1400.
I would offer it at $1400 Or Best offer and take $900 or more.

Q: My 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis won’t start in the morning?
I have a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis and every morning I have a problem starting it. I have to spray it with starter fluid every morning to get it started. I have changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, air flow regulator, and put in a new battery. Does anyone have any suggestions?

A: spray probly wrecked air flow sensor…real ques is why all the fuel parts,,,,,ever tune it up…plugs wires, cap, rotor if equiped,,,

Q: Where is the starter located on a 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis LS?
I have a short in my starter and I need to replace it. I have a 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis LS.

A: its on the passenger side, and its a pain to get to bthe top bolt.get the car on some ramps and block up the back.you’ll need all the room you can get to get it out

Q: How much is a bottom ball joint replacement going to cost me for my mercury grand marquis?
The bottom ball joint on the front passenger wheel just broke on my car. It’s a 1996 mercury grand marquis. I’m not a mechanic of any sorts, so I’ll probably be taking it in. Any idea how much this is going to set me back?

A: probably around 120 bucks for labor and all,,they will have to re-align the front end of it too,,all of this should be included in the price,,good luck,,i hope this help,s.

Q: How to install a pick up coil on a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis?
Hi, My Mercury Grand Marquis pick up coil has broken all up and the car will not start going to pick up one today along with a new rotor button since it has to be remove to put the pick up coil on I need to know how to install the pick up coil do I have to remove the distributor or not? Please help

A: Yes, the distributor needs to be removed and partially disassembled to replace the pickup coil. Ford had a program on these back in then, but it is now expired. If it hasn’t been replaced, I suggest replacing the TFI Ignition module as well. It is easier if you have a manual for reference. However, if you are not familiar with the vehicle, I suggest taking it to a dealer or repair shop. It might even be more cost effective to just get a reman distributor. The detailed procedure to remove the distributor, replace the pickup coil and reinstall the distributor would take more space than allowed here to document. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Q: Can someone please help with a 1991 mercury grand marquis problem?
I have noticed a rattling noise coming from under the hood of my 1991 mercury grand marquis. It only happens when idling in drive and usually only in the mornings or whenever I first start it and drive it. But at different times I’ll hear it all day. I keep reading that its a throwout bearing or something to do with the clutch but my cars an automatic. I don’t know what it could be and all that usually ask about this has a stick shift. So I would greatly appreciate any helpful feedback you can give me. Thank you.

A: have someone look under the hood when you start it up

Q: Where is the fusebox located on a 1989 mercury grand marquis?
I recently bought a 1989 mercury grand marquis and I’m having a very hard time where the fuse-box is located.

A: look for a removable panel under the dash next to the steering column..

Q: How to change the lock code of mercury grand marquis without the factory-set code?
I have a 2002 mercury grand marquis and the lock code of it was told to me by the old owner. But I know that I can change it with the factory set code, and the process of doing it is there in the catalog. But I didn’t find the factory set code anywhere……….. can anybody please help? I really want to change it……. please……. please help if this is possible…………………

A: It can’t be changed, you can add a personal code, but it takes the factory code to do that…the code is on the back of the lock module if you can find it, it might be in the passenger side of the car by the backseat..

ADDED:
I found this:

Step 1
Check the factory-programmed code if you do not already know it. This code is printed on a small sticker that should be affixed to the gas spring arm on the right side of the trunk’s interior.

Step 2
Enter the five-digit factory-programmed code into the keypad on the outside of the driver’s door.

Step 3
Press the “1-2″ button immediately after the factory code has been entered. This must be pressed within five seconds. This will activate the code-setting mode for the personal code.

Step 4
Enter your preferred five-digit personal code. Make sure that you press the first button within five seconds of initiating the process and press each subsequent button within five seconds of the one before it, otherwise the code-setting mode will time out.

Step 5
Look and listen for the power door locks to cycle on and off. This is a signal from the vehicle confirming that the personal code has been changed.
.

Q: Where is the pcv valve on my 1990 mercury grand marquis?
I’m trying to locate the pcv valve on my 1990 mercury grand marquis to replace it but i cant find it. sites have told me it’s behind the intake manifold but i’ve look numerous time and have yet to find it!… any help would be great! pictures would be great!

A: Your PCV valve is located in the lower intake manifold towards the rear of the engine. To find it wait till your engine is cool, lay across the top of the engine so you can reach down between the upper intake plenum and the fire wall. Feel around on the back side of the upper plenum and you will find a hose approximately 3/4 inch in diameter, follow the hose down and you will find the PCV valve in the end of it pressed into a grommet in the lower intake manifold.

Q: what years of mercury grand marquis wil the engine an trans interchange an go in my 1988 lincoln towncar?
i found out that my moms 84 mercury grand marquis’s engine an trans wil fit in my lincoln but she just bought it cause her other car went on the blink so would a 87 an 88 year grand marquis engine an trans go in my 1988 lincoln towncar?

A: yes, they 88’s are the same engine. The 84 is not the same – it’ll fit fine, but it has throttle body fuel injection.

Q: Do u have to alter a 1995 mercury grand marquis for 22’s to fit let me know?
I’ve just purchased a mercury grand marquis and i wanna throw some 22’s on it do i have to cut or raise it.

A: No, i don’t think so. You might get some minor scraping around really tight corners, but you should be okay. For 24’s you’d need a lift.

Q: Fuel pump removal for 1988 mercury grand marquis?
i have a 1988 mercury grand marquis and i have a bad fuel pump. i was wondering how do i remove the pump? i have already dropped the tank. just dont know how to remove it!

A: you will most likley need a new tank and sending unit.
there is a locking ring with tabs that needs to be twisted but usually dirt dust and debris has held moisture, corroded or rusted the tank rim and by the time you get it apart the tank willl be damaged and leak

A: BMW cars are excellent cars,if you buy well maintained one.
even 1984 5 series E28 are still on the road in roadworthy and excellent condition.

You will love the E39 models onwards.

Now all depends on your budget.

I suggest the male buy a 5 series -520i
and the female buy a 3 series -320i

Insurance will be high for your age groups.

Both engines will be same, but body is different.

You can decide and buy now if you can manage the fuel cost and service cost.Dont buy the bigger engine capacity due to rising fuel cost.2 litre engines are powerful enough.

Join the BMW owners.No regrets.

Wishing you the best.Happy and safe motoring.

Q: bmw 5 series?
why is that automatic trans is not advisable for a bmw 5 series!??

A: Okay, what you have here is some wild misinformation.

First, on ALL cars it is unadvisable to have an automatic. I am dead serious, the reason why is because with a manual it’s generally better for the engine. This is due to many, many factors. Think about it, you can manually control the RPMs of the car to its optimal level, that way you get the most power and torque and you won’t (necessarily) under-rev or over-rev the engine. Also, a manual transmission is: Lighter, requires less coolant, simpler, takes (typically) less gas (more miles per gallon,) smaller and the gearing can be just as or more specific than that of an Automatic.

BMW is notorious for having interesting transmission stories. Most Americans realize that standard equipment on BMW and most European Cars for that matter is a Manual Transmission, this literally shocks people.

You have to remember what BMW is. It is the ultimate driving machine; it’s designed to be driven fast and spiritedly. So much so, in fact that in certain models of BMWs, the Owner’s Manual clearly says something along the lines of: “BMWs are intended to be driven to their potential and frequently the engines require certain levels of output to maintain their ideal performance level,” i.e. Drive that BMW hard sometimes to get it show its true colors.

Beyond all that, BMW advocates the experience and there is no doubt that driving a manual is far more fun than having the computer system of an automatic transmission shift for you. BMW equipped their cars with the Manual because that’s how they designed the car, that’s why it’s recommended.

The facts are, on an E60 5-Series, you can expect a 6.5 second 0-60 time with an Automatic, a 6.0 second with a manual and potentially a 5.75 second with a Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG, which is a racing-style gearbox…very, very fast.) So obviously there are performance benefits and in addition to that, the gas mileage is significantly better with the manual as opposed to the Automatic or the SMG.

You have to divide the issue. If you like aspirated driving and get an opportunity to let your BMW loose, go for it, get a manual. If your driving is stop-and-go, complicated or you’re busy doing things with your hands or just don’t like the hassle of a manual, then by all means get that Automatic. BMW isn’t going to be terrible in an Automatic just not quite as fun or “pure,” but its no big deal, I think.

A final note, the Automatic Transmission on all BMWs has a “semi-automatic” mode where you can manually select gears, without the clutch. I like the system; it allows me to control the RPMs and the engine speed, so it’s a good compromise between the automatic, manual and SMG transmission. I hope this helps.

Q: I want to buy a 5-series BMW stickshift. Which would be the best ever from 1990 onwards?
I want a 5 series BMW stick shift preferably V6 and not V8. Which would be the best year of such a Beemer from the 1990s till date?
I mean in terms of reliability and least breakdowns..I know each car is different and one size does not fit all but just a general consensus

A: Its simple the newer the BMW model the more the costs and catastrophic money sucking breakdowns they have. The best of the bunch is the 89 and on E34 535i so your 1990 limit is meet. Still has the great 3.5 motor BUT its the weakest of the bunch in terms of durability and reliability. Good thing you want to go with a stick since the automatics are plagued with very early failure. Also you can get a used trans out of a 87 or 88 E28 535i and and some 3 series if you know what your doing. If I only had a 89 535i to drive I would right away re route the heater hoses to get coolant flow going thru the back of the cylinder head asap. BUT with all BMWs from around that time up to today BMWs are plagued with numerous electrical problems with failing units and cracked solder joints. And many more mechanical problems.

Q: How many inches is the rear lip on these wheels for a BMW 5 Series.?
The wheels are staggered front(20×8.5) and rear(20×10) the offset is 18mm and bolt pattern is 5.120. They will go on my (E39) 5 series BMW. Can you determine how many inches the rear lip is going to be or is more info needed?

A: pretty wide wheels, you’d be lucky if you rolled the fender wells and the the wheels would tuck in (and of course got stiffer coil/springs to compensate)

better option would be to have the fenders flared out by a body shop

where’s you get the rims, off of a M5?

Q: Is a BMW 5 Series the right car for my 17 year old?
I’m looking to buy my 17 year old (soon to be) a nice car, please none of the “are you crazy” or “you have too much money”. It has to be a nice car, he likes the BMW 5 series, would it be a good car for him? Any other suggestions? Must be BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Lexus, Porsche, Audi or any other quality makes.
I think I already said about the “spoiling” and the “money business”. I’m just on to ask about the car, he’s getting a nice car. END OF. I don’t know whether it’s jealous with you people, or what.

A: I’ll try a reply without the preaching!
Yes, a BMW 5 series is a fantastic car – beautifully made, reliable, even surprisingly economical for such a large car, they’re also safe & secure.
Have it serviced at an independant specialist – BMWs require very little maintenance to stay on top form, and the mechanicals are surprisingly simple. A BMW dealer will absolutely rob you for servicing.
As for other answers, suggestions such as Ford & Mercedes are a joke – The Mondeo in particular has serious reliability & economy problems, and to suggest it’s in the same league as a BMW is ridiculous to anyone that’s ever owned both – me included; Merc just don’t have the build quality & reliability they used to enjoy.

Q: How good of an engine comes in the bmw 5 series?
I’ve been looking into the lexus ls 400s and the bmw 5 series years ranging 90-95. Ive heard great things about the lexus engine being bulletproof but can the bmw six cylinder say the same? How mileage can i put on the car without having to worry about major issues?

A: Well all of BMW’s engines are great. Here are the ones they offer for the 5-series.

3.0-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC), 24-valve inline 230-horsepower 6-cylinder engine with composite magnesium/aluminum engine block, Valvetronic, and Double-VANOS steplessly variable valve timing

3.0-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC), 24-valve inline turbocharged 300-horsepower 6-cylinder engine with twin-turbo technology, piezo direct injection, and Double-VANOS steplessly variable valve timing

4.8-liter, 360-horsepower 32-valve V-8 engine with 4 overhead camshafts, aluminum engine block and cylinder heads, Valvetronic system, 2-stage air intake manifold, and Double-VANOS steplessly variable valve timing

They are all great engines. Any of them would be good if properly maintained for 200,000 miles. Good luck and make sure you get one that hasn’t been beat too hard and has been properly maintained.

Q: How do you remove a 2004 Bmw 5 series front head rest?
I need help removing a 2004 bmw 5 series front headrest plz hlep me plz include pictures and description on how to remove it thx for reading this question and help bye

A: Pull up on it, HARD. It can sometimes be hard to get off but keep pulling.

Q: How do I get a new key for a 2000 BMW 5 series?
I’ve lost all the keys of my car as well as title. I need a new key for my BMW 5 series (2000). What proof of ownership will I need to show in the dealership? Will they give me a key without first seeing the car or do they need the car? Is there any other place becides dealership where I can make BMW key? Thank you .

A: You will have to get a key from the dealer. If you do not have a business relationship with them, they should require you to prove you own the car. If you have had them work on the car previously, they probably would only require a driver’s license to verify you are the person who there records say owns the car.
If they do not know you or the car, they should require proof of ownership which would nornally be the title. If you have lost your title you need to get that replaced anyway.

Q: I am thinking of buying a new BMW 5 series but i am confused for which to buy?
I am thinking of buying a new BMW 5 series but i am confused for which to buy the options are 520 d (diesel) average is 15.7 and 525 i (petrol) average is 10.1.
Have heard that 525 have got more features.don’t know about it much

Please need your help urgently
Price is not a concern i want to concentrate more on performance and the comparison of this 2 variants from BMW
520d or 525i which is preferable ?

A: I dont understand your question sorry. try to explain better

Q: Im trying to install a aftermarket radio in a 2000 Bmw 5 series ?
Im trying to install a aftermarket stereo in my 2000 bmw 5 series how does it work do i need any parts from the original stereo.

A: Contact the people at Crutchfield Electronics. They can tell you what connectors, parts and tools you need. They will also sell them to you at reasonable prices.

Q: When does the 2011 BMW 5 Series start selling?
When does the 2011 BMW 5 Series start selling in the USA?

A: They have been in production and up For Sale for the past 2 months in the USA. The 2011 535i and 550i where the only ones available for purchase 2 months ago, the 2011 528i sedan just hit dealers about 1 week ago. The 2011 BMW 528i sedan is cheaper then its previous predecessor, the starting price for the entry class 2011 BMW 528i is listed to sell at $44,550 with a National MSRP $45,975 while its 2010 predecessor priced at $45,800 at an MSRP of $47,225. The 2011 BMW 528i has 240 HP which is 10 more HP then its previous predecessor with 230 HP. The 2011 BMW 5 series competes head to head with the 2011 Infiniti M-class, Audi A6, Mercedes E-class and the Lexus GS.

(Starting prices for each 2011 5 series Trim, MSRP includes “H&D” fee aswell as the “Gas Guzzler Tax fee”)
2011 BMW 528i – $44,550……………MSRP $45,975

Q: What is the correct tyre pressures for Bridgestone Potenza 225/50R17 in psi on a BMW 5 series?
Hi, I have a used BMW 5 series which has Bridgestone Potenza 225/50R17 tyres (run flats) all round. Can someone tell me the correct tyre pressures in PSI for front and rear tyres…Thank You.
3 answers and 3 different answers. Come on guys give me an answer that’s consistant….

A: Following the recommendations posted in the driver’s door pillar is the right procedure. But the low tire pressure in front is disconcerting to some drivers.
If you can stand a tiny little bit of roughness in riding comfort, then you can increase the front tire pressures to 36 or 38 psi. You would hardly notice the roughness but could possibly gain a little more mileage due to less rolling friction.
If you are a stickler for rules then just stay with manufacturer’s recommendations.

Q: What do you think of the new BMW 5 series (pictures released about a month ago)?
Hi, there is a new style coming out in March this year (2010) – what do you think of the new style of the new BMW 5 series? It’s coded the F10 and you can see it on the BMW website. Not sure myself, even though I am a keen BMW enthusiast.

A: never have another beema over rated

Q: Does the BMW 5 Series 2005-2006 has a rear camera for parking ?
I want to know if a BMw 5 series 2005-2006 has a camera while parking and those sensors of driving and stuff

A: Hi Dany,

There is no rear camera available at all for that age of 5 series model.
There is however PDC (Park Distance Control) which has the sensors in the bumper(s) which give an audio warning when parking close to objects. On some models you also get a graphic display on the i drive showing the car and any nearby obstacles.

Hope that helps, Pyth

Q: Why are the bmw 5 series cheaper than the 3 series?
I’ve been looking at 3 series bmw’s around the 1996-2000 models and you can get them for around 9-10 grand with about 150km on them. But I’ve noticed that you can get a more luxurious bigger engine 5 series for around the same price or cheaper. Is there more problems with the older 5 series? or do people just prefer the 3 series? cheers

A: Who ever is selling you a 1996-2000 BMW 3-series for $9,000- $10,000 is royally ripping you off. The current national MSRP pricing for a used 1996-2000 3 series model is like $5,000 -$7,000 depending on the condition. The 2002-2005 BMW 3 series are the ones selling for $9,500-$12,500. The 5 series is known to have a very poor depreciation value, you can get a 2004-2005 BMW 5 series for as low as $14,500-$17,000 nowadays. The 5 series is already on its 6th generation of the sedan, indicating the depreciation value would go down for an old 1996- 2001 BMW 5 series. The 1997-2003 BMW 5-series is the 4th the generation of the sedan until the new one debuted in 2004 and ended in 2010 of this year, the current and Newly redesigned 2011 5-series hit the streets about 2 months ago and is selling for National MSRP of $44,550 which undercuts its previous 2010 Predecessor by $2,000, this is clearly a sign. But then again I just noticed you said “cheers” so I’m starting to assume you meant €9K-€10K Euros, not dollars??? lol

Q: What are common problems with a bmw x5 that is over 100k miles?
I am thinking of swapping my 05 golf gti with 48k miles with an 05 bmw x5 with 100k miles. You hear of most cars having problems after 100k
– Is it wise to swap?!
– What problems can occur over 100k with an x5
– What advice would you give to maintain it and make it go for another 100k miles maybe?!

Thanks

A: make sure vehicle has full service history bmw engines are usually very reliable and should go several thousand more miles with regular servicing

Q: How is the reliability on the X5 BMW?
I am thinking about buying a used 2006 BMW X5 that has 52000 miles. This would be my first BMW… I would appreciate any type of feedback/experience especially related to the X5 model.

A: The x5 is a great car, but I have an x3 with about 55000 miles and the maintenance is what can be so expensive and oil change can be 150 bucks. Great car maintenance cost is just something to keep in mind.

Q: How much would a BMW X5 cost right now in Canada?
My boyfriend is in love with the BMW X5, it’s like his dream car. I wanted to see if anyone knew how much it costs because I am thinking of buying it for him as a gift.
I’m talking about the new one.

A: I’ll assume you mean new, They start at $58,00msrp and go up to $72,000 MSRP depending on which model you get. Then there are extras plus all your taxes. Very expensive. If your looking for used, check autotrader.ca

Q: how to replace the alternator on a BMW X5?
I have a 2003 BMW X5 and the alternator seems to be the problem. I already changed the battery twice (thinking it was a battery problem), but yesterday, the battery started draining again. Others had told me that it could be the alternator. I’ve priced the alternators and I would rather do the work myself, but I don’t know how difficult this task might be. Any thoughts?

A: why don’t you take it to your bmw service center so they can hook it up to the computer and check where the problem is, and it up to you if you want them to fix the problem or take it somewhere else, atleast you will check out all options before doing anything.

Q: Why is my BMW X5 central lock system not functioning?
(year 2003) BMW X5, apparently the central lock system does not work.

Also, the interior lights does not turn on when the door is opened.

Anyone know why this happen and how to fix it?

Thanks. 10 pts for grabs.

A: Could be a bunch of reasons. Check the fuses, is the key initialized? Is the key charged, Is there a fault code for low power or high power. X5’s also have ignition switch issues that can cause similar problems.

Q: How long will my BMW x5 run for? Is it a good first car?
My mom has an 03′ BMW x5 with 140k miles on it. Im 16 and shes buying a new car and handing this one down to me. Just wondering how long they usually last. We are the original owners of the car and it has been treated gently. Is this a good first car to start out with? Thanks!
Its accually a 2004. Not 2003, sorry for the confusion

A: 140k is absolutely nothing. As long it was well maintained it will run until you buy your own car and then some.

Q: IS it hard to remove xenon headlights from BMW x5 and put aftermarket ones?
I have BMW x5 3.0i 2002 with xenon headlights, but i got other one with seperate ballast and new headlights. Any ideas how to install it? Please details.

A: My advice: don’t.

If you already have an x5 with original factory fit Xenon headlights, that’s the way to leave it. Xenon headlights are a lot more fiddly to install than the old fashioned kind. They can be dangerous to handle, and contain high voltage capacitors that could shock you.

At the end of the day, the odds of you being able to switch out the lights, and do a better job than the factory is pretty slim. Especially as you apparently don’t even know where to start.

When you eventually trade your car, its value will be determined by the mileage, vehicle history, condition, and whether or not you have been messing with it. No one wants to buy a car that some enthusiastic amateur has been playing with. People are looking for a good clean vehicle in as close to original condition as possible.

Q: How to transfer ipod music into bmw x5?
so i can plug it in and play it through aux in the bmw x5 2009 but i cannot transfer them into the car as it says on the manual in which the car can store 16,000 songs so i dont need to plug it in everytime, anyone know how to do this? transfer songs from ipod into bmw x5 2009 so i do not have to plug ipod in everytime the play the songs.

Thank you all!

A: My M3 has a separate USB connection in the glove compartment other than the one in the console used for playing only. This is the one you need to use to transfer music. But you can’t do it from the iPod. You will have to store the songs on a separate USB device, like a flash drive, and plug that in. Once you find it in the iDrive, the system will then transfer all the files into a folder on the hard drive in the car. They can be WMA, MP3, or AAC. However, it will not play back protected files, like M4P you buy off iTunes, only store them. But it will play back M4A files. You can also copy entire CD/DVDs even if it is full of songs in the above formats.

Q: Can a Craftsman garage opener be compatible with a BMW X5 Universal Remote System?
I tried 2 options from the manual to get the Universal Remote System on my BMW X5 to work with my Craftsman garage opener unit but it’s not working. Am I too far from the unit? What should be distance from the car to the unit?

A: BMW homelink system should work with most garage openers. If the BMW instructions don’t work, bring it to the dealer.

I believe you need to hold the door opener right next to the BMW homelink unit when programming.

Q: Can I add a nav system later in a used 2003 BMW X5?
I am about to purchase a 2003 BMW X5, 3.0i Sport edition vehicle with no navigation system… Will it be possible for BMW to modify the dash board and install a nav system for me? And if so, will it cost a lot to do so?

A: I’ve heard that the iDrive system sucks. Better to go with a Garmin.

Q: What do ABS and Brake and DSC lights on mean on BMW X5?
I have a 2001 BMW X5 and on the dashboard the ABS, Brake, and DSC lights are always on. They will not turn off. What does this mean? Is there a problem with my car? If there is a problem how can I fix it?

A: Go to the dealer and get it checked out. these lights come on when you are driving aggressively. The same thing has happened to a friend of mine Especially for the DSC ( Dynamic Stability Control ) this controls the handling of your car like a traction control.

Q: Please can any one expalin how I can locate the engine number of a BMW X5 3.0 TURBO DIESEL ENGINE?
In some countries to register a car they need the Chasiss N. (frame) , and the Engine N. I need to know where to look to find the number on the turbo diesel engine of the BMW X5 3.0?
Thanks for your help.

A: The number of all engines is always located and engraved on the engine block. Either it’s on the left side or the right side of the engine assuming that you are facing the fan belts.

Q: Do you know how can i find a decent video review of BMW X5?
I am changing my car into a SUV and i want to buy a BMW X5, but i cannot find a decent video review or user comments about this car.Thank you for your time.

A: cartv.com has a nice video review of the X5, the exact link is below.

http://www.cartv.com/content/research/vir/index.cfm/Action/Media/media/video/MAKE_VCH/BMW/MODEL_VCH/X5/?vid=ov_0051

Q: what is the best aftermarket in dash navigation for BMW x5?
I have non navigation, non DSP,non Bluetooth BMW x5 3.0i 2002. I want to get in dash navigation for it,which plays MP3 files and still supports steering wheel controls and has bluetooth connectivity and ofcourse GPS itself Any suggestions? (I want it look as close as possible to stock, but have much more options, and to have touchscreen and have very bright colorful screen).

A: Ok what can I tell you. I have BMW x5 4.4 2002 so I know what I am talking about. First broblem you are going to have is doble din dash kit some person is selling it for $470 each on ebay. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can find doble dash kit cheaper I would say between $150-$250 but still it is going to look bad. I changed my speakers through out my car put couple of subwoofers and install two head rest dvds. trust me is it gooooooood. Good Luck.

Q: what is the price difference for parts of a bmw x5 compared to a ford windstar?
i want o buy a bmw x5 but i heard like just an oil change is like $60 more than a ford windstar? What do you say?

A: Yes. It uses Premium gas, synthetic oils, and parts and maintenance cost about 50 percent more than Ford parts.

Q: Lexus IS???
I am thinking about getting a 2007 Lexus IS 250….and I want to know what you think about this car…it would help if you own one

Thanx!!

A: Well, I own an IS 350, but they’re pretty much the same. Anyway, I love it. It’s a great car for the money. Get it, you will not regret it.

Q: What is the difference between a Lexus Coach edition, and a regular Lexus?
I saw a Lexus today that said it was a coach edition and it made me wonder, What is the difference? So i was wondering if anybody could tell me What the difference between a Lexus Coach edition, and a regular Lexus?

A: For 1997, a limited “Coach Edition” LS 400 was produced in partnership with American leather manufacturer Coach Inc.. The edition featured Coach leather seats, embroidered emblems on the exterior, floormats, and armrest, special colors and added trim, and a Coach cabin bag; production was limited to a yearly run of 2,500 units.

In 1996, Lexus offered an ES 300 “Coach Edition,” featuring select Coach leather trim in the interior and a set of Coach luggage.

Above excerpts from links below.

Q: Can you have a Lexus serviced at a Toyota dealership?
My parents just bought a new Lexus but live 150 miles away from the nearest Lexus dealership. It’s kind of far to drive to get something done if anything happend.I heard that Toyota will service Lexus for minor stuff. Is this right?

A: Depends on the region and proximity of each. There are cases where a Lexus and Toyota dealer are within 20 miles of each other let’s say… then the Toyota dealer is NOT authorized to repair your Lexus. In your parents case, I would imagine the Toyota dealer will work on the Lexus.

Same parent company and cars for crying out loud…

Q: How can I keep the Lexus cigarette lighter on when the car is not running?
I need to keep a minifridge running for short periods when the car is not running but Lexus turns power off when key is off. Can that be defeated so at least one lighter stays live?

A: It would have to be rewired. Currently the feed wire to the cigarette lighter is wired into the accessory-switched circuit; you would need to remove that wire from the back of the lighter and run a new wire to an unswitched power source, like the battery. (Make sure you put a fuse on your wire if you connect it to the battery).

Q: how many miles can a lexus go before you start having major problems?
a client of mine has a GS Lexus 300 with 100,000 miles on it. what is a fair price and how many miles can it go.

A: As with any car, it depends on how well it has been taken care of.

100k miles isn’t really that much for a Lexus. Assuming it was well taken care of, it should last another 100k miles with out any serious problems.

I’ve heard of old LS400’s having 300k, 400k, or even 500k miles on them, and they hadn’t had any problems yet.

Q: How do you start a Lexus GS300 2006 when the key battery is dead?
My 2006 lexus gs300 won’t start because the battery in the automatic key is dead. How do I start the engine with The mechanical key?

A: Take the key fob and place the Lexus logo directly on the start button with your foot on the brake press the start button.

Q: How many people think that a Lexus is underrated?
I think there is so much emphasis on European luxury cars that most people fail to appreciate the beauty and quality of a Lexus. They are cheaper than other luxury cars in their class and have similar options plus they are reliable.

A: I drive a Lexus IS300 and I too, think they are underrated, but that’s ok. It makes me a unique driver because I see through all the hype and hoopla that the European cars are trying to throw at the consumer. My car is 3 years old since I bought it brand new and I haven’t had a single issue with it. I love it to death!

Q: What are the mercedes classes to a lexus and bmw ?
For example the BMW 7 series is to a Lexus LS Class, or Lexus GS model is to BMW 5 series.
Or the Lexus LS is to an Audi A8. Well If you guys can help that would be great.

A: Benz S class ~ 7 Series BMW ~ Lexus LS

AND

Benz E class ~ 5 Series BMW ~ Lexus GS

AND

Benz C class ~ 3 Series BMW ~ Lexus IS

These are the closest match that there could be. There can not be a direct comparison between the brands though.

Q: How many people knew that Lexus is in the Toyota family?
I didn’t know that until I found this out on a manufacturer’s list. Toyota actually makes the Lexus’. So Lexus is really in the Toyota family. Did anybody already know this?

A: Yeah since day one. Toyota, Lexus and Scion are all the same company.

Q: What is the difference between Lexus and Toyota if they are the same?
I could not find any difference between Lexus and Toyota besides the logo. Everything is similar just one called Lexus other Toyota.

A: That’s pretty much it! They are made by the same company but you have to pay more for the Lexus logo. And Lexus probably offers better upgrades/options.

Q: What exactly is the December to Remember Lexus sale?
Every year, Lexus gives a promotion called the December to Remember. But neither the website or the tv commercials list what the sale is. Is it zero percent financing? Invoice pricing on the new vehicles? Brand new toaster with purchase?

A: Its mostly a discount on the MSRP of the car your looking for. Its not zero percent financing.

Q: What’s the difference between the difference Lexus types of cars?
I’m turning 18 in a few months, and when I pass my driving test my parents are allowing me to choose what car I buy, though the budget is 8-9K. I’ve been looking at some luxury cars, but is that too far a stretch for a budget like that? I was looking into the Lexus IS series, but I heard they’re just Toyota Camry ripoffs or whatever. So is there a good car (luxury, if possible) that fits in my budget and looks pretty decent? I’m a car newbie here, so any tips/help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A: well, yes a lexus is most likely a stretch for the budget that you have, unless you have some of your own money to put into it. maybe go to www.autotrader.com and look at the cars that you like that are in your budget. i think toyota’s are great cars, you could maybe find a used one that is in your price range and some of them are quite luxurious.

Q: Is it necessary to get the maintenance from a Lexus dealership?
I’m thinking about getting a Lexus IS 250 but I heard the maintenance costs are really expensive. Can I just go anywhere to change the oil or any other maintenance? What are your suggestions?

A: if you know your way around a car….. by all means do it yourself, but if you dont then yes have the dealer do it. Cheaper to do it in a toyota dealership because lexus will rip you off big time with maintanance.

Q: What is the average yearly maintenance cost for a Lexus or BMW?
Any Lexus or BMW owners who can tell me how much they spend per year on maintenance costs? I can’t decide which brand to buy out of the 2. This is a huge factor.

Also I plan to buy certified pre owned if it makes a difference…
I’m looking at Lexus 250h or a hybrid… BMW 325i or the M series.

A: BMW is offering maintenance on new BMW’s, but I’m not sure about their certifieds. The Maintenace is supposed to be all routine up to 50k miles I think.

Q: How bad is it to put regular gas into Lexus RX350 instead of recommended premium?
Got a new Lexus RX350 and love it but trying to save on gas, I was wondering how truly crucial it is to use the premium gas recommended. Does it really damage the engine? Or does it just decrease the performance minimally and not worth the cost?

A: chances are you are going to damage the engine in a major fashion and your local lexus dealer sure isn’t going to be backing you up for a warranty claim–and don’t think they can’t tell what type of fuel you have been burning–spark plugs will rat you out-so will the burnt valves and the hole in a piston=all real posibilities=let me get this now==can afford a lexus but cant afford the extra .10-.15 cents a gallon to feed it right=but it sure looks good in your driveway for the neighbors to look at?

Q: Jeep Patriot?
My wife and I are considering the purchase of a Jeep Patriot. (new)
I wanted to know if there are any owners of these vehicles out there. And are you pleased with them?

A: I travel a LOT..too much, but I get to check out all the new cars. Go to Thrifty Rental Car and rent one. Due to this question, I did last week for three days. I am over 6′4″ tall and could not believe the leg and head room. VERY quiet!! The variable ratio tranny is unique, in that there is NOT shift sensation at all. The engine winds up and it pulls. Now, I tend to drive fast and uh…TEST rental cars…( Would never buy a used rental car!!) I held over…uh the highway speed limit..”For a while” and much in town. Still got 21 MPG. Enough room for large suit case the two brief cases behind the rear seat.
In general, I am hard to please, but that thing is unexpectly nice to drive and economical as well.
Good Luck,,,I give it thumbs up.

Q: What other Jeep bolt patterns that match Jeep Patriot bolt pattern?
I have a Jeep Patriot which has a 5X4.5 bolt pattern, what other Jeep vehicles have the same bolt pattern? I’m looking to switch out the rims but would like to keep it in the Jeep family.

A: The Jeep Durago and Wrangler all have the same Patern

Q: What are the rear window measurements for a 2008 Jeep Patriot?
My boyfriend just bought a 2008 Jeep Patriot and I am wanting to get vinyl lettering done on his rear window for Father’s Day and need to know the mesurements to do so without him knowing. I am looking to put a flag across the entire back window.

A: It sounds like a suprise!!! Try calling any glass company in your area that normallly replaces them. They should be able to give you measurements.

Q: What is the average dealer profit margin on a 2008 Jeep Patriot?
What is the average dealer profit margin on a 2008 Jeep Patriot?

Buying a new one today, looking at two, one with a sticker of about 18k, the other 22k… just wondering how much leeway I have with the sticker price.

My trade in is between 2500 and 4000 in value if that matters.

A: Not much about 5-600 markup. Take whatever rebate you can get unless its a better deal to get a finance rate.No special rate but 500 rebate so good luck. I sell jeep I hope you enjoy it.

Another case of dumb no it does not have 2000 in markup you can go to edmunds .com and build the car and see invoice just remember some things are missing regional advertising and a couple of minor cost things. Good luck.

Q: Does the Jeep Patriot only come with a Manual Transmission?
I was looking into getting a new car and I saw the Jeep Patriot and read the specs on it and fell in love. The only problem is, whenever I search for a car in the area, they are all listed as manual! Does the Jeep Patriot only come with a manual transmission?

Also, does anyone have any opinions on the Jeep Compass? It looks interesting!

A: nope its just cheaper to get them with the manual tranny i work at a jeep store and all we have are jeep patriots with auto trannys i like them…. the compass is a good car as well i like them too nice and small but still spacious on the inside its a nice car in my opnion id go for the patriot but its all up to you hope this helps

Q: How does the 2008 Jeep Patriot Sport 2wd handle in snow?
I’m looking at getting a 2008 Jeep Patriot Sport with 2wd. I live in WI and would like a vehicle that is good in the snow. I would like a Liberty or Commander but they are a little too expensive right now. Does ESP help?

A: That has FWD, and the ESP is a traction and stability system, and will help.

It should be decent in the snow, but a lot depends on tires. Does that have M/S tires, or just standard all season car tires? If it’s the latter, you may want to consider putting four winter tires on for the season, it makes a huge difference. All season tires are a compromise, winter tires are designed to be good in snow.

Q: Gas mileage on the new Jeep Patriot different than stated?
I have a Jeep Patriot, 4×4, 2.5 4L engine, manual transmission. The sticker claims that it does 25-29 mpg but I’ve yet to see such results. I’m getting under 23 every time and I’ve been driving like a grandma trying to get to at least 25! Anyone else having this same problem? What kind of mileage are you getting?

A: The mileage estimates on your sticker are EPA mileage estimates, which are notorious for being inaccurate. They overhauled their testing standards for 2008, but real world mileage can be much different.

Driving like a grandma doesn’t mean much. Living in areas with a lot of hills or mountains will decrease mileage, as will rain and snow. Check your tire pressure often, as improper tire inflation can hurt your mileage.

Other than that, you’re probably getting average for that vehicle. Welcome to SUVs.

Q: What do people think of the 2010 Jeep patriot?
i want a jeep patriot for my first car. I like that theyre cheap, but is there a reason why theyre so cheap for an SUV?

if you have any pros/cons that would be great

thanks!

A: I think that jeep along with all other companys screwed up the appearance of cars. The classic Cherokees looked awesome as hell. If you go back farther, look at the wagoneers. All you get from buying a new car today is a piece of fiberglass crap. I see the newer cars in the junk yard already, not wrecked, driven by g-mas. BUT if you look around you still see cars from the 70,s- early 90’s driving around. What happen when cars looked good, were built to last and ran like crazy?

I’d say get a lifted classic cherokee. not grand cherokee either.

Q: Wondering how Jeep Patriot owners feel about their vehicles?
Thinking about purchasing a Jeep Patriot and would like to hear how current or previous owners feel about their experience with the vehicle. A few things I need to consider when buying a vehicle: I have a baby so I need lots of space for cargo, as well as room for the carseat behind the passenger or driver seat, without pushing someones knees into the dash. I also have about a 25 mile commute and need decent gas mileage.

A: If you’re looking for problems after 40,000 clicks you’ve picked the right car.

Q: jeep patriot?
opinions..good and bad

A: I have one she is a month old today.I haven’t found any problems with her yet.I am a bit bias because I am a jeep fan and have other ones than the patriot.I have had jeeps for quit a while now and have had no major problem with any of mine.It is good on gas I get 300 miles per tank. And it is very comfortable for long trips. It is peppy but not has powerful has say a 4.0 liter jeep is.And I know it does good in an accident.I hit a steel pole with mine when she was a week old.And it only scratched it up slightly.Which was amazing to me because I hit the post pretty hard. They can be purchased in trail rated 4×4 if you are into that I am so my baby has the off road package. It is fun to drive.I make up excuses to get out of the house to go for a drive. All and all it is a nice truck.

Q: Can I turn off the 2008 Jeep Patriot tire sensor?
Like many other people, I have a SUPER SENSITIVE tire sensor on my 2WD Jeep Patriot. If the temperature drops 2 degrees, the thing freaks out and the car thinks the tires are low, even though they’re not. Bottom line, it’s annoying and I can manage my own tires. Is there anyway to shut this off on my end OR could a mechanic do it? Thanks!

A: Unfortunately, this pressure monitor garbage is a federal mandate, and disabling it is illegal. So removing the bulb would be illegal as well, and I wouldn’t advise it. Even though it would be tempting, don’t do it or have a mechanic friend remove it. Some states now require the system to work for safety inspection, so even if someone (even after being told not to), were to remove such a bulb, they may need to replace it before inspection….. but that’s not legal, either.

Q: Does anyone know anything about the Jeep Patriot?
I have been interested in buying a Jeep Patriot. Does anyone know anything about them. Gas Mileage? Room? Performance?

A: Availible in front or all-wheel-drive it is based on the same chassis as the Jeep Compass and Dodge Caliber. 2.0 and 2.4L four cylinder engines are availible. Interior trim is a little blah compared to other vehicles but will be upgraded for 2010 model. Lots of options, good interior room for its size, its reliable. Most people choose the 2.4L, better preformance, and the Limited edition is nice, but should be at $26K. I think its the best of Chrysler’s small cars. The front drive version get about 24 city / 28 hwy with the 2.4L. MyGig sound system is great. I see very few in service, except for oil changes.

Q: How do you like your 08/09 Jeep Patriot ? I am picking one up by the end of the week.?
I was going to get the Jeep Liberty but the 15 mpg for city driving drove me to the patriot.

A: In this segment I would look at the Subaru Forester (new model for 2009), Honda CRV or the Nissan Rougue. More efficient engines, better build quality, much higher resale value, so your overall ownership cost can be less.

Q: Is the 2010 Jeep Patriot a reliable car?
I’m thinking about getting either a 2010 Jeep Patriot or 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I don’t know which one is more reliable and is a better investment.

A: All Jeeps are notorious for their poor ability in snow. They also are known to not last longer than 5 years without huge mechanical bills. If you are in the market for a small SUV, and live in a warmer climate than the Patriot may be right for you. However, if not, consider the risks of purchasing, and also the reliability will go down if you do not change the oil often, as that is another expense that Jeeps require. Hope i could help

Q: What is the difference between the Jeep Liberty & Patriot?
So I was checking out Jeeps earlier today, and noticed that the Jeep Liberty and Patriot look exactly like, seems as if the only difference is the price, lol! So what the difference between these two cars? Thanks!

A: The Liberty is built on a real frame and more capable off road. The Patriot is unibody and based on a Dodge Caliber so its not really capable off road but better on road.

Q: acura tl??
do the acura tl “els” premium audio systems, distort badly.. or do they sound really good?

A: Only if you have hearing problems.

Q: Acura TL??
I am looking to purchase a used car. I was sold on a 2003 TL, but now after doing extensive research, have learned about the transmission issue. I would LOVE to buy an 04, but it’s just not in the budget. I know Acura covers them up to 100k miles, but do they actually fix the issue or put a bandage on it? Also, was this just a small % of the cars of the production line? I have to go back to the drawing board if this is a big issue. I love cars and really want to get something used, but nice. My budget is 16-18k. Was thinking (if not the TL) 04-05 Volvo S60, Infiniti I35 (if i can find one), was thinking Audi A4, but don’t think I could sleep with the reliability issues I hear about. Any others??? I also was thinking about an 03 Lexus ES 300, but getting such an old vehicle bothers me, should it? All thoughts, experience, advice would be great. I have to turn in my company car next week as I’m switching jobs. Thanks a lot in advance.

A: YOU CAN ALSO GET FREE INFORMATION BY CALLING THE MANUFACTURER AND ASKING THEM. ALL YOU WILL NEED TO TELL THEM IS THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BUYING THE VEHICLE GIVE THEN THE VIN AND THEY WILL PULL EVERYTHING THAT THEY HAVE ON FILE THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED.

ALSO REMEMBER THAT IF THE VEHICLE IS ANYWHERE NEAR A COASTLINE HAVE IT INSPECTED FOR FLOODING, I HAVE SEEN TOO MANY OF THESE VEHICLE GET PASS INSPECTION BECAUSE THEY WERE CLEANED UP VERY GOOD AND THE CUSTOMER GOT THE RAW END OF THE DEAL.

Q: How many miles should a brand new Acura TL have when it comes from the factory?
Im buying a new Acura TL and i was wondering how many miles an Acura tl has when it comes into the dealers lot. In other words, when its coming from the factory.

A: I used to work for a Honda-Acura dealership. When they would come off the truck, the most I ever saw one have on it was 2 miles. That is the most that any new car should have on it.

Q: How many miles should an Acura TL have if it has not been test drove by anyone?
Im buying a new Acura tl and the guy says that the car already has 31 miles. Is this how it should be if it has not been test drove by anyone?

A: For a new car straight from the port to a dealership after PDI it should not have more then 10 miles.
The Acura HAS been test driven or used for a few lunch runs.
Its YOUR new car, be picky. No more then 10 miles and in the color you want and dont let them change your mind or DX (dealer exchange) one in for you because lot attendents are brutal on cars.

Q: Does anyone know when Acura TL will redesign its model completely?
I’m planning to buy a car in two years when I can drive. I really like the TL model the way it is now… does anyone know when Acura’s gonna redesign the whole thing?

A: The 2009 redesigned model will probably be out in late 2008. Expect 300 hp and AWD… Some spied pictures – http://www.thecarconnection.com/Enthusiasts/Spy_Shots_and_Future_Cars/2009_Acura_TL_Spied.S178.A13269.html?DID=RSS

http://www.leftlanenews.com/acura-tl-spy.html

Q: How do I make my Acura TL 1999 blow more air?
I have a 1999 Acura 3.2 TL and I’m just wondering how I can make the air conditioner blow more air. It feels like nothing is coming out and takes 30 minutes for the car to heat/cool. I had a mechanic test it and he said it’s producing the correct temperature and insists there’s nothing wrong, but it doesn’t blow enough air!

A: this car has a cabin air filter, for the air conditioner, that needs to be changed..not the air filter for the engine – it is a different filter.

Q: Do I need any special tools to change my oil in a 2008 Acura TL?
I just bought a 2008 Acura TL last December. I already had my first oil change at 6k miles. But now I want to switch to synthetic and start doing my own oil changes.

Do I need any special “Acura tailored” tools for an Acura TL in order to change my own oil and oil filter?

A: First – most luxury line cars have bumper to bumper warranty -that includes the oil change (free).

===
If you want to change your own oil, basically you will need

(1) jacks
(2) jack stands
(3) oil filter wrench
(4) hand tools (wrench)
(5) pan to catch oil

http://www.ehow.com/video_11_change-motor-oil.html
http://www.greasegorilla.com/oilchange.asp.htm
===
they have pans that you can catch oil AND carry it back to the store to dump the used oil (without spilling). Get the large size as it is difficult to get the oil to flow out just into the pan opening.

If you don’t have hand tools, I suggest getting Sears Craftsman brand. They are solid like rock. And if they EVER break, just take it back and they will give you a replacement tool – on the spot. That way you can continue with the oil change (repair).

Sears also sells Jack & Jack stands. You can get their lowest price version for the home use.

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00950138000P?mv=rr

I would wait for a sale on their hand tools. They have sales almost every month. I got the 154/155 piece set for $99. The set does NOT include filter tool – but that’s pretty cheap.

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/s_10153_12605_Automotive_Tools+%26+Equipment_Mechanics+Tool+Sets#viewItems=80&pageNum=1&sortOption=PRICE_LOW_TO_HIGH&&filter=Brand|Craftsman&lastFilter=Brand

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00935154000P?vName=Automotive&cName=Tools+%26+Equipment&sName=Mechanics+Tool+Sets

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/search_10153_12605?keyword=oil+filter&gobutton.x=0&gobutton.y=0&gobutton=find#viewItems=20&pageNum=1&sortOption=PRICE_LOW_TO_HIGH

Get the cheap oil filter tool – they are good enough for once in a while use.
===
Just a FYI -

There are 4 most important maintenance items in your engine

(1) engine oil (3k – 5K miles) – even with a full Synthetic
(2) tranny oil (30K miles)
(3) coolant (3 years)
(4) timing belt (60K miles)

Just keep those maintenance and your engine and tranny will be problem free. I have a 94 Civic with 187K miles and the engine + tranny + suspension runs like new. I get 41 MPG (doing 72 MPH). I can get even better MPG doing 55.

Good maintenance pays off.

Good Luck…

P.S. Don’t use the oil filter tool to tighten the oil filter. Just use your firm grip. Don’t over tighten your drain plug. It does NOT hold anything but just block the oil.

Q: How much would it cost to repair a timing belt on a 99 Acura TL?
What would be the cost for a timing belt and labor for a 99 Acura TL?! Secondly, what would be the cost to repair timing belt, timing belt tensioner, crank and cam seals, oil change, degrease motor and 5 motor mounts? Thanks for all answers.

A: Type “repairpal.com” on your computer. It is a free website that will give local (according to the zip code you fill in) costs (parts and labor) to repair your vehicle. They cover the most popular and common things like timming belts.

Q: How to Setup the Wireless Remote for the 04 Acura TL?
I just bought this new wireless remote (techinically not “new” just a basic wireless remote), and I was wondering, if someone can explain to me how to synchronize the wireless remote to my 2004 Acura TL?

Thank you.

A: Just get the dealer to do it.

After they’re done, tell them to wash your car too. I swear the only good thing about Acura dealerships is that they wash your car after every simple thing.

Q: what if I used regular unleaded(87) for my Acura TL instead of higher according to manufacturer?
So recently i bought an Acura TL, and i had just found out by reading the manual that it “recommends” using premium gasoline . what would happen if i already filled my tank with regular unleaded gas? will it damage my vehicle?

A: No, you will just loose a small amount of HP.

Q: How much would it cost to repair a dent the size of a nickel on an Acura TL?
I have a 2006 Acura TL and the color is Anthracite Metallic which is a dark grey color. On the Front Right Quarter Panel, there is a dent which looks like it was shot with a bullet but the bullet didnt go through the metal. Its diameter is the size of a penny.
How much in general would it cost if I were to bring it to a bodyshop and have them repair it with that powder stuff like joint compound and spray it.
Has anyone repaired a dent that size before? How much did it cost you?

A: paintless dent removal ask a detail shop in your area they will know the # to call there about 20-30 $ per dent( no repaint or bondo) hope this will help.

Q: How well does the acura tl’s navigation system voice command work?
I am very interested in the effectiveness of the voice commands in the acura tl

A: It’s an awesome feature. However, you have to spend some time learning the correct commands and the proper screens for the commands if you want to use it effectively. The only negative I’ve found with it is that the fan can’t be up too high, or else your commands won’t be understood. I love being able to change climate and stereo with voice commands in addition to navigation commands.
In my opinion, when I bought my 2005 TL w/nav, it was by far the best nav system available.

Q: How can I install a radar detector cord in the roof of a 2004 Acura TL?
I am going to be purchasing a 2004 Acura TL, hopefully soon. I test drove one in which the previous owner had installed a radar detector cord through the roof, so that he could mount the detector next to the rearview mirror. I’m not purchasing that particular car. Should I do this installation myself? Or, where can I have it done? Any of you ever done this before? Thanks. Also, and other customizations that you would reccommend for this car?

A: take it to someone who knows what they’re doing. (stereo installers, mod installers).

Q: Is it possible to install a navigation system on a 2004 Acura TL?
Can a navigation system be installed on a 2004 Acura TL? I know some do have navigation, but could one be installed in a non-navi TL? Are there better navi systems than Acura’s factory system? Thanks.
I don’t want a navigation system to put on the dash of my car, I want it where the radio is.

A: Well a navigation system can be installed on any car. Do you want indash or portable.

Q: How can I make my Acura TL 2002 fog lights into HID lights to match my blue-ish looking HID headlights?
Ok, I know very little about cars and what I’m trying to find out is where I can find some kits to look at that will change my Acura TL 2002 fog lights into HID’s that match the headlights. Can anyone help me out?

A: you can get a conversion kit for your fog lights, if the fog lights are part of the headlight assembly the light bulbs are 9006 bulb, if the fog lights are separate for the head light assembly and on the bottom of the bumper it should be an H8 bulb . i recommend getting a a digital slim ballast kit for your car its easier to install.

Are you looking for a Mercury Milan? Check out the Trusted Automotive Market Place LemonFree.com

Q: Is a Mercury Milan a good car to choose as your first car?
This is my first time buying a car and I’ve done my research on how to purchase a car and what to look for when buying a car. I’ve seen a Mercury Milan and they look like pretty good cars. But i just want more feedback from people that have owned Mercury Milans before or that knows a lot about cars.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net

Q: My radio will not start up after I replaced my car battery? 2007 Mercury Milan?
My battery died on my 2007 Mercury Milan. I replaced the battery and then my radio would not come on. The car runs great now but how do I get my radio back. I checked the fuses and they looked fine. Thanks in advance for your help.

A: You’ve reversed the battery’s polarity. Make sure the grounding cable goes to the negative post.

Q: On a 2006 Mercury Milan with a 6-disc changer, how can I get the name of the CD songs display on the screen?
I have 2006 Mercury Milan, which has the newer stock radio that Ford is installing in their vehicles. In a 2005 Ford Mustang, I saw the radio display the type of music being played and the song type across the radio display. I would like to know if anyone has programed their radio to do the same and if I can do the same with my radio. Thanks!

A: I want to make long sweet passionate love to you…in your car.

Q: Where do you put the license plate on a 2006 Mercury Milan?
I just got a 2006 Mercury Milan and I live in Maryland, so it’s a state where you have to have a plate on the front and the back. I don’t see a mounting place in the front. Do I have to take it to a shop and have them install one? Or what?

Thank you

A: In Texas we do the same thing, 2 plates req. i prep new cars everyday at my job, there should be two small pre- drilled holes in your front bumper ( the size of the point of a pen ), if not grab you two screws and make your own holes

Q: What is the fifth headlight setting on the Mercury Milan?
I am renting a 2006 Mercury Milan, which did not come with an owner’s manual. On the headlights control module, there are four settings on the top and one setting all by itself toward the bottom-left of the module. I understand what the top four settings are, but I need to know what that fifth setting is and how to activate it (the control knob does not turn past the four top settings).
The four settings that I do know are: auto, off, parking, and headlights on.

A: It’s the FOG LAMPS,
You don’t turn the switch to that setting.
When you have the headlights on….. just pull out the switch, towards you & that little icon will light up to tell you that your FOG LAMPS are on.

Q: How do you turn the cabin lights off in the 2007 Mercury Milan?
I just bought a Milan and somehow turned the cabin lights on and can’t figure out how to turn them off. Can someone tell me how to turn them off?

A: First off, shame on your salesperson for not going over the entire vehicle with you!! Not my style!!!
If you look right by your light controls for your headlights, there is a little rotary switch that can be rotated upward and downward. If you turn it all the way up, it will click and your interior lights will come on. If you spin it down just a notch, the lights will go off and your dash will be at its brightest.
Hope this helps.
If you have any other questions, feel free to email me at rbulmer@gengras.com

Q: Where is the MP3 player input on a Mercury Milan?
I saw a commercial the other day where people were plugging in their iPod into some jack in the Milan to make the music come out of the car’s speakers, and the caption at the bottom of the screen said something like, “audio input standard.” I have a 2006 Milan and can’t find any place to plug in my MP3 player like that, and also can’t find the owner’s manual. Anyone know? Thanks!

A: Hi The MP3 jack is only available on the 2007 model. My husband just turned my ‘06 in for the ‘07 model. See link (http://reviews.cnet.com/4531-10921_7-6650997.html) for article and picture for the 2007 model. It is also on Ford’s media site (http://media.ford.com/newsroom/feature_display.cfm?release=23573) which details all 2007 vehicles this will be offered on. Now, your CD changer on your 2006 Milan is MP3 capatible.

Q: How do you change headlight bulb in a mercury milan?
Would the headlight need to be removed? If so does the bumper have to come off for this process?

A: In most cases, the headlight does not need to be removed, but it depends on the year and model. Look under the hood at the back of the headlights and you should see a wire going into the back of the headlight.

In most cases, you can twist the plastic base that the wire is attached to and remove the bulb.

Q: Is the Ford Fusion the same as a Mercury Milan?
Is as safe as the Milan? Does it have the same features?

A: They are essentially the same, but the Mercury comes with a higher number of standard features and is generally targeted more towards women.

Q: What do you like or not like about your 2007 V6 Mercury Milan?
Wondering what people thought of their new Milan. Do you like it. I am disappointed in mine. There are a lot of things I do not like. The trunk is too high. Can’t seem to get much cool air in. Harder to climb out of than my Sable. Seems to be hard to park. Bar on front drivers side obstructs my vision. No outside temp. control in it.

A: It seems to be fine for everybody else who owns one. I have heard some things about the trunk being a little high. http://autos.yahoo.com/mercury_milan-reviews_user/;_ylt=Ai9mQl0vmD_4gnKdpwZ0692ISsgF;_ylv=3

Q: What is the theme song for the Mercury Milan 2010 car commercial?
I know it’s a pop eighties tune, it goes yeah yeah yeah yeah…..go! I’d like to know the name of the song and who plays it so I can purchase it possibly online. Thanks for the help.

A: Maybe this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY1Uz2C5Qao he has done commercials for Ford before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2yXWFgxES4&feature=related Allan Jackson

Q: Where is the inertia switch on a 2010 Mercury Milan?
The manual says it should be under the front passenger kick panel but we’ve looked and it’s not there. Is there anywhere else it could be?

A: Try behind the rear trim panel just underneath the left rear speaker.

Q: what is the red blinking light to the left of the RPMs on my 09 mercury milan?
I’ve got a red blinking indicator light that blinks even when the door is closed and key out. Looked in manual but did not see it.

A: Theft light possibly? Look at it if it reads THEFT it’s just your passive security system

Q: Anyone have or had a 2007 mercury milan? were you satisfied with it or are there cons?
just bought a 2007 mercury milan, love the car, except for the high trunk lid and big blind spot, anyone own one and can tell me any good or bad things about it.

A: I haven’t owned one, but I know the Milan had the highest quality from ‘05 to ‘07, and was just beat out this year by the new Chevy Malibu. In the two previous years, the quality of all Mercury cars ranked at 3 and 2 respectively, behind Lexus and Cadillac.

Q: Why does Mercury Milan 2007 have tiny round headlights?
The tiny round headlights are on the outer side and bigger headlights are on the inside of the round headlights. The headlights that light up are the little round outer lights, and the inside lights that look like they should be the headlights are the high beams. Makes no sense. Is this normal? Just bought the car yesterday.

A: its perfectly normal. They are called halo lights and can be found in many luxury/high end cars. They tend to provide a more focused beam of light. Count yourself lucky… its a nice feature to have.

Q: Where can I buy a 69 Dodge Charger grille insert for my 2009 Dodge Challenger?
I have a 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T and I have been looking online for a grille insert that resembles the old 1969 Dodge Charger headlight look, where the grille spans the entire front end and the headlights are behind the grille. Does anyone know if there is such a thing out there?

A: No one makes one there hoss. You will have to stick with the grill you currently have.

Q: Dodge challenger?
have had this car for 10 years, no problems. I go out today to start up, turns over but won’t start, No spark. Check for fuel issues no problem, getting gas to the cylinders. 318 ci. automatic, electronic ignition (no points). I replaced plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, and ballast resistor, still nothing. Could it be ignition module? Coil? How do you detemine if these are operating corectly. What else? Thanks for the help.

One additional detail, just went out and checked new ballast resistor (white porcelain on firewall) and it is extremely hot, I tried to crank car over for about thirty seconds. What does that mean?

A: Is the rotor turning in the distributor?

If so, most likely the problem is in the madnetic pickup in the distributor. If not, pull the distributor out and see if the gear on the shaft is broken.

A good gear on the distributor and the distributor not turning means you need a timing chain!!!

Q: Dodge Challenger Rims question?
I just purchased a Dodge Challenger. I hate the rims and I am looking for 20in black rims. My question is…the car came with 18 in rims. Would I be able to use those same tires for the new rims? Also if so, when does it require low profile tires?
Ha..this wasn’t suppose to be submitted under aircraft!

A: Please don’t screw up a fine looking automobile by putting 20’s on it.

Q: I have a 2dr 08 jeep wrangler but im thinking about getting a new dodge challenger any thoughts on what to do?
Jeep Wrangler or Dodge challenger?

A: Well, the dodge challenger is by far the best choice for style and power but jeeps are extremely dependable. It’s all about personal preference. Myself, I would give in on style and power and go with the dodge challenger.

Q: Does the new Dodge Challenger offer a convertible as an option?
Hello, I am interested in buying a new Dodge Challenger. That would be for the model years 2008, 2009, 2010.

Does the challenger have a convertible as an option?

Will the Challenger continue to be produced past 2010?

A: Yes, the challenger will be produced after 2010, and no year offers a convertable option. There are a couple of aftermarket firms that will make a convertable, but nothing factory.

Q: If I had a Mustang, Dodge Challenger, and a Chevy Camaro what would you put on the plates?
There is a competition at my grandma’s work where if she had those three cars what personalized plate would you put on each of them?
She said for the Dodge Challenger she would have something like DODGE EM and for the Mustang or Camaro she would say IM WIRED.
Any suggestions on unique names for them?

A: mustang
‘PONYCAR’ (cause.. its a pony car)

challenger
“MOPOWER” (mopar power)

camaro
“bmblbee’

Q: How much does the Dodge Challenger Concept cost?
How much does the Dodge Challenger Concept cost?

A: the concept cars are never sold off,i have had the pleasure of seeing a few of those up close, they are kept in large vault like building with limited access to them,i seen a lot of nice cars, the concept cars are always kept by the manufacturer, unless the company goes under, which happened to Studebaker, and all their concept cars was sold off,a private collector bought all of them, its something to see the first one the idea came from though,i doubt that there’s enough money to buy a concept car,i wasn’t even allowed to touch them ,no one was ,good luck.

Q: How much will a dodge challenger 2009 price drop?
How much do you this the dealers will drop the price of a new 2009 Dodge Challenger SE. I am wonder because i would like to purchase one, but i am unsure if it would be any lower if i bought it now then later. especially when its the first year they made the SE for dodge challenger

A: they,ll drop a little bit if they want them to sell, the dealers are adding too much of a mark up on them, and if chrysler wants to stay in the game they,ll have to lower the price of them some, time will tell what they do ,good luck.

Q: can i rent a dodge challenger at the airport in michigan?
i want to rent a dodge challenger for a weekend and what was the best place to rent from and a reasonable price? do hertz rent them out?

A: Negative, the national chains will not have a challenger to rent.

Q: Can a 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T engine be replaced by 2006 Dodge Viper SRT-10 engine without modifications?
I wanted to change the engine in my Dodge Challenger R/T to the Dodge Viper SRT-1O. Will I need to change the transmission, make suspension upgrades, or any other modifications to make this happend. And if any one knows, what would be the cost of labor to have something like this done if I already have the 2006 Dodge Viper Engine?

A: If you have unlimited funds, you can put anything in anything.(street Hemi in a Honda civic). But this swap your talking about would cost you a small fortune, plus the fact that it violates about a dozen federal emissions laws. I doubt that any shop would take this on without an open ended quote.

Q: Does cloning my 1972 Dodge Challenger into a 1970 Dodge Challenger RT devalue it or increase the value?
I am just wondering, I am not big on cloning cars, but my favorite car is the 1970 Dodge Challenger RT, and would love to make my car into that, but I would not want to do that, if it devalues my car, can anyone help?

A: Well thats kind of a tough one…Everyone knows that the 70 is the one to have…The 72 is desierable but not worth as much as the 70…Here,s the way I look at it…If you got a base model 72 challenger with a 318…Then why not?A Cloned 72 with a a 440 with a four speed is still worth more than a base model 72 challenger….Hey go for a Vanishing point clone!!!!!!!MOPARS RULE!

Q: Does the Dodge Challenger have good headroom?
I’m 17 years old and 6′2″. Ive sat in a dodge charger and i had tonnns of leg room. And i hear the challenger has good leg room too. But i need to know if a Dodge Challenger has good head room. i would like to account for any growth i could still experience so lets say 6′4″. would a guy that size fit in a challenger alright?

A: The Challenger has plenty of interior space. The drivers seat can pretty much slide back into the backseat so you shouldn’t have any problems with legroom. The headroom is quite sufficient, you don’t have anything to worry about. If you don’t want to take my word on it just swing by a local dealership and sit in one. Any trim level will do.

Feel free to contact if you have more questions. Just got mine a few months ago and I love it.

Q: 1974 Dodge Challenger chrome bezel that goes around the fuel flip cap website.?
I need some help, I have a 1974 Dodge Challenger and i’m looking to purchase the chrome bezel that goes around the Flip fuel cap. I would like a website that I can purchase from New pref. but used will be ok if in good condition. Any help on websites?

A: Year One is good, but I usually post on moparts.com for parts. Just did restos on a 66 coronet and a 68 RR and I always start there. Lots of Mopar nuts with extra parts laying around… Plus info on where else to look! Good luck!

Q: How much would a pre-restored Dodge Challenger R/T 440 cost?
I am a fan of classic american muscle cars, and I want to restore one as a hobby and because I’ve always wanted one. Came across a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440 today (in utter junk condition) and saw that it was posted for sale at 45000 dollars. I couldn’t believe it! This got me wondering. How much should a pre-restored Challenger cost? And don’t ask me who that person was, cause I wouldn’t know.

A: Well, a properly restored 440 R/T can fetch close to 100 grand at the big auctions. One with a hemi can go way over that. There aren’t that many of those cars out there, not like Chevelles, Camaros, Mustangs and other more common muscle cars.

Q: Am i the only one that likes the dodge challenger srt8?
why is it that every time i see a video on youtube of the dodge challenger srt8, some crappy honda or some ghetto car beats it and then people on the forum try to say that the honda is stock!

does any body know of a video that shows the srt8 winning?

personally i think the challenger is kickass!!!

A: I love it also, wish I could fit one into the old budget.

Q: How long do 2001 Audi A4’s run before they start having problems?
Just bought a 2001 Audi A4 1.8T with 104xxx miles. I plan to do all the required regular maintance. I’ve heard these cars run long if well maintained?

I’m just asking becuase I plan to mod the car, but only will if I’m sure the engine can take it.

A: A modded car will have to be maintained more meticulously so be aware. I have seen very well maintained stock 1.8t’s make it well into the high 100k miles. I have seen very poorly maintained 1.8t’s die before they make it out of warranty. In your case, be sure to only use synthetic engine oil and if the timing belt hasn’t been done within the last 5 years or so, do it now. Be aware of sludge issues with this engine too. Check the underside fo the oil cap for sludge residue. If there is any, you may want to look into a flush and stuff. Audi dealers have a procedure that involves replacing several lines and using factory cleaning equipment to resolve most of these issues. Its not going to be cheap. I would stay away from any over the counter flush solutions though. They typically do more damage then helping. If you take care of your car, then it should be able to take you close to the 200k mile mark with only minor problems.

Q: Is there any difference between the 2003 audi a4 and the a4 quattro?
I am asking because i just bought an air intake kit for my audi. Mine is the Audi A4 quattro 1.8l turbo charged.

A: If the air intake is for the 1.8T engine you should be fine. One model year won’t make a difference. That engine has been around a long time.

The difference between a regular A4 and a quattro is the quattro has AWD.

Q: How long does a 2005 Audi A4 last? And what kind of fuel does it take?
I am purchasing a 2005 Audi A4 Convertible. Currently, it has 95,868 miles. I am wondering how many more miles it will be able to handle? It has a 1.8 Liter 4 Cylinder Engine. My other question is regarding the type of fuel it takes. I have heard that Audis tend to require the “plus” or “premium” fuel. Will this car be able to accept regular unleaded fuel or do I need to fill up with the more expensive type of fuel?

A: 95k on a 2005, i would probably stay away. However if you want to continue with the sale make sure it has all of the maintenance records and they are done at the proper time. Also if it hasnt had its major tune up, belts, water pump ect. its time for that which is around 1500. How many more miles can it handle, how knows. Its had a rough life so far, I cant see this thing making it past 130k without any problems.

As for fuel, if this were the v6 I would say put in what you want, but with the 1.8t your going to want to go witht he recommended 91 octane.

Q: How long will an Audi A4 last without any serious problems?
I’m considering buying a used Audi A4, I have heard before that they can last a pretty long time so I was wondering if it would be a wise investment to buy a used A4 with up to 150,000 miles on it. Lets say the owner before took good care of the Audi.

A: 200,000 miles if the right oils and service schedule are used and the guy looking after it knows audis, never use jiffy lube or similar and steer clear of american mechanics with a club hammer in one hand and a pipe wrench in another

Q: How to drive Audi A4 Multitronic paddle shift?
I just got an Audi A4 and it has multitronic transmission w/ paddle shifts. I have never driven a manual car before so I don’t understand how gears work exactly.

Can someone explain to me in very simple terms how to use paddle shifts? I want to use this feature!

A: First of all, one of our associates points out that the car will operate just like a traditional automatic if left alone. However, the Multitronic CVT allows the driver to “manually” shift the artificial “gears” with the paddles. It is not a “manual transmission.”).

Another one of our car enthusiasts and associates suggests, that the Multitronic is simply Audi’s CVT (continuously variable transmission). If you’re not familiar, CVT’s don’t shift. They offer seamless acceleration with no gear changes. Many hybrids such as the Honda Civic hybrid, the Dodge Durango Hybrid, and the Toyota Prius feature these types of transmissions. While they can be optimal for fuel economy, their performance is generally less than optimal, as they’ve proven to be pretty weak in high power applications.

Our experts point out that the paddle shifters on the A4 and other Audi models equipped with the Multitronic transmission have computer controls that can dictate any number of manufacturer specified separate pre-determined transmission ratios. If you select manual mode and forget to shift, the transmission will simply default back to automatic mode so as not to hurt the engine.

The idea behind the paddle shifters is best discovered on a track or twisty road. They allow the driver to keep the car in a desired gear for optimal acceleration around tight turns or up and down steep grades. Example: If you’re about to start a turn, you may want to tell the car to shift into a lower gear, brake, and then since the lower correct gear is already selected, you can exit the turn under optimal power.
For everyday driving though, the paddle shifters really are not needed..

Proper use is fairly simple. When accelerating, tap the up shift paddle (go from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3) before redline. If you don’t tap the up shift paddle, the car will shift for you.

One of our associates points out that the owner’s manual might explain how to use the paddle shifters a little better. We also suggest that the best option would be to go back to the dealership for a demonstration. The bottom line is that you cannot hurt the car if you operate the paddle shifters wrong. The computers will take over before damage is done.

Q: How can i improve performance in 1999 audi a4?
I have a 1999 Audi A4, 4 cylinder 1.8T and am wonder what I can do to improve the performance? I’ve heard cold air intakes aren’t very useful in an A4, so i was wondering if there are any other performance parts or anything i can install without breaking the bank

A: These cars were “chipped” for the American market. The computer chip can easily be upgraded by “A.P.R.” REALIZE that these engines do NOT work their best without synthetic oil that meets specification 502/505. This means Mobil One 0W-40, and Total Oil (from France) 5W-40. THere are a few others, like Pentosynthe and Lubro-Moly. Engines have wrist pin squirters in them to aid in internal cooling and extended engine life. Regular oil will destory it!! Make sure your crankcase ventilation system is not compromised with sludge. Install a set of Denso Iridium or Twin Tip spark plugs. but ONLY after you are sure the engine is clean inside and vant system is AOK! POwer wash engine to dissipate heat evenly. Use “top tier” fuels, only. READ about this on internet. Use only Audi fluids, NO NAPA PARTS EVER!! THere is a higher output KKK turbo available for this car. E-mail “A.P.R.” Audi performance specialists for more information!

Q: How much does is cost to maintain an 1999 Audi A4 ?
I am trying to finance a car, just graduated from college. Honestly anyone know how much it would be to maintain a 1999 Audi Quattro A4? It has a 100,000 miles on it and is being sold for $5,995. Is this a good car to buy and drive, or would I be paying an arm and a leg to keep it serviced?

A: they are expensive to maintain they are not for the person who is happiest with a Toyota that never needs servicing they are for someone who wants quality and performance and is willing to pay for it. The original buyer’s of Audis (or BMWs and MB) are not looking for cheap to own they are looking four build quality and performance both of which you get ample of in an Audi but you also get 60-100$ oil changes and if the timing belt has not been done on that car you need to have it done it runs $1000+ form the dealership but can be done by and independent mechanic for around $500 they should really be done every 75K miles (even if the book says 120K) if it is a 1.8T you must use premium ALL the time if it is a 2.8 you can get away with mid grade but the car will retard the timing and you loose horse power with the mid grade.

so yeas its a great car its also right at the time period when allot of maintenance is due makes sure some of it has been done (timing belt and water pump are the biggest thing) if it is still on original struts and shocks they usually only last 120K or so not much more check for oil leak and anything like that.

Honestly Audi is still one of the cheaper cars to maintain in its class BMW is slightly more expensive for most models and MB can be just outright exorbitant.

Q: How long does it take to custom order an Audi A4?
I’m thinking about buying a new Audi A4 and take advantage of the ‘pick it up at the factory in Germany’ deal. How will it take from the time I place my order until it’s ready?

A: It depends how far from the factory you are located and how muh custom equipment you ordered.
In Germany, you need about 2 months fro the new A4. If you want the new Avant, It won’t be out till spring.
In the US and the UK, even the 4 door won’t be out till spring at the earliest.
If you you want the car completely customised by Quattro GmbH, it’s a matter of negotiation. Expect at least 4 months in germany.

Q: How expensive is maintenance on an 1999 audi a4?
I just bought a 1999 audi a4 with 133,000 miles. It recently had most of the belts changed including timing belt. I think the brakes were recently done. Nothing seems to be the matter with it except the brake light flashes even though the e brake is down. The reason I bought the car was I got an incredible deal on it ($1875). I am concerned about maintenance. How expensive can it be?

A: You shouldnt have any schedualed maintenance in the near future. You should probably look over the car and make sure there are no small problems that can turn into big ones. For $1875 I’m willing to bet there is something wrong, so if you cant find it you may want to take it in and have a mechanic go over it. If everything is fine your only maintenance expense will be oil changes ($75+ at most places).

Q: Is it possible to change the computer settings on an Audi A4 1997 if it revs too high?
This may or may not be a stupid question!! But I have an Audi A4 that REVs too high compared to other comparable… Is it possible (or even worth) changing/resetting the computer to help the gear ratios?

If its possible, is it best to get a mechanic to do the job or can any smart minded person do the job?

.

A: I am assuming that you are referring to the RPMs going higher than usual before your transmission shifts. If this is the case, there is nothing you can program. Unfortunately, there is nothing an Audi Technician can do to program it either. How do I know? I am an Audi Technician. We can code or perform adaptations, but we can’t reprogram those sort of parameters.

You could try altering your driving style too. When you get higher up in the RPMs, you can ease of the gas a little to get the trans to shift earlier. If this does not change anything there may be an electrical problem with your trans. Also you could check the kickdown switch. If it is stuck, the trans would be in a constant “kickdown state,” meaning it thinks you want to quickly accelerate and holds the gear higher into the RPM range.

Q: Can I install a remote start on my 2003 Stick audi a4?
Can I install a remote start on my 2003 Stick audi a4?

A: yes you can they have ones specially made for sticks look here just click on any one of the brands and it should help.

http://www.directed.com/Products/Security/Default.aspx

Q: How much does engine swap job cost for Audi a4?
2003 Audi A4 1.8t. How much would labor cost to put a new engine in it?

A: Find a competent vw/audi shop and save money instead of going to a dealership. It shouldn’t cost more than $3000

Q: What is the major difference between a 2010 VW Passat and a 2010 Audi A4?
Hello folks. I wanted to see if anyone could tell me the “significant” differences between a 2010 VW Passat and a 2010 Audi A4 (non quattro). I am in the market for a new car and I am considering the the A4 but several people have mentioned that it is just a very luxurious sporty Passat and even has the same engine. Is this true? Can someone elaborate if possible?

A: I’d go for an audi if the price difference isn’t that great. The major difference is in handling and smoother ride. Specially if you intend to go on long trips, the audi is more comfortable after a long trip and less tiring. I cannot tell if its the smoother suspension, seats, or what. Thats my opinion.

Q: Where can i find the coolant temperature sensor on a 2004 audi a4?
I need to replace my coolant temperature sensor and i cant find it anywhere. the dealer is trying to charge me $200 bucks to try to replace something as easy as this…anybody got a 2004 Audi 1.8 V6 A4?

A: try ebay or craigslist. i know the audi dealer charges so much for repairs.

Q: Can I put a Double Din head unit in a 2007 audi a4 with a stock single din head unit?
So my question is if its possible to put a DOUBLE DIN DVD navigation headunit, into my audi a4, which is a single din headunit.

Thanks for your help.

A: NO
your car has a “Euro-DIN” and the stereos attach from the front through the 2″ tall rectangular hole in the dash, sliding into a metal sleeve that attaches to the front of the dash.
and Double-DIN receivers fit in the 4″ tall opening found in many Japanese and American vehicles.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-xo29BFe3C5v/app/car/popups/ReceiverSizeCode.aspx

don’t know your dash-board layout but you would have to go the custom route for that to work
